Lavenham – 40 Years of Traditional British Quilted Excellence
Lavenham is a clothing brand synonymous to high quality, excellent design, durability and stability. With over four decades worth of experience in the clothing business, it has brought the clothing industry to a whole new dimension with its unmatched style and comfort.
In their line of clothing, horse-rugs, shoes and accessories, Lavenham puts emphasis on two important attributes - Quality and Durability. For every piece of clothing they produce, they make sure to include these two vital components. Their strict adherence to quality and durability forms the invaluable foundation that sets them apart from competition.
The Lavenham Quality
If there is a brand that is most British in every aspect - it would be Lavenham. Lavenham takes pride in its traditional English designs and manufacturing methods. They source and use only the best British Isle materials, even right down in their choice of interlining. From the cutting, quilting down to the final inspection, their manufacturing methods have always been based in in-house methods. Every stage of production is carefully and meticulously watched so that every quilted jacket or horse rug produced bears the fluency and consistency that is stamped in a genuine Lavenham.
History of Lavenham Clothing
Lavenham has existed in the clothing and horse rug market for more than four decades now. It was in 1969 when Mrs. Elliot established the Lavenham Rug Company in a small village called Lavenham. It was in this year where they pioneered the production of the first nylon quilted horse rug. Two years later, expansion as well as outside factors prompted the company to relocate to a larger production area in Long Melford. In 1972, the company started to produce quilted jackets. After three years, they started making Jodhpurs and Breeches, which are horse-riding trousers distinct for their close-fitting lower leg and reinforced knee areas.
In the early 80's towards the end of the decade, the popularity of Lavenham's quilted jackets grew in the UK and Italy. In 1993, the company started to export to Japan, with APC as its first avid customer. As the continuous expansion of Lavenham as a clothing company stabilised in 1998, their next step was to introduce Duffle coats and diamond quilted bags.
Lavenham has been awarded twice - the first in 2002 and again in 2007 - with the Queen award for International Trade. In 2003, the company finally moved to its current factory in Sudbury (where the opening was graced by no less than the Duke of York).
The company celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2009, and the celebration was commemorated with the 1969 Liberty Art Fabric archive print. Today, Lavenham is geared to taking the UK and European markets by storm, as it continues its worldwide expansion.
The Charm of Lavenham
Today, people are still quite charmed by Lavenham for the same reasons as four decades back. The brand is highly coveted because of the fact that every Lavenham is a reflection of classic English design and excellent British quality.
Despite their adherence to the British classic design, Lavenham today has fully embraced colour and detail into their line of quilted clothing. They have become bold in riding into undiscovered landscapes in their contemporary styling without compromising tradition and excellence.
Lavenham Quilted Jacket Collection
Let us take a look at some of the most popular Lavenham quilted jacket lines:
Heritage Collection - Lavenham's Heritage collection remains to be their classic line of jackets and waistcoats. They have been designed to be lightweight yet warm, to add versatility to your style. They are either made of nylon with Teflon coating to provide resistance to water, wind and stain, or of polyester for that softer, snugger fit.
Denham Collection - The Denham is Lavenham's most traditional jacket design. The patch pockets and back vents are some of its distinct features. Fastening may be in the form of press studs or button front. Some models, such as the Blackwatch Tartan and the Flax are self-bound in wax.
Denston Collection - Denston is Lavenham's prestigious wool collection. The Mini Club Check features a distinct checkered fabric, welt pockets and a three-quarter length design with front button fastening (each button bearing the company logo). The Denston Charcoal is similar in design but jet black in colour.
Moulton Collection - The Moulton collection, specifically the New Taupe model, also features Lavenham's three quarter style, but with distinctly shaped pockets with flaps.
New England Collection - The New England line of jackets are longer in length and fully reversible. Button fastening (with stamped logo) is featured on both sides. The jackets are highlighted with special pockets which can are accessible from both sides of the jacket. The New England comes in blue, brown, and black colours.
Craydon Collection - This jacket is the hooded version of Lavenham's traditional classic design. It retains the back vents and patch pockets, but the front fastening is uniquely made from Glenroyal leather button.
Mickfield Collection - The Mickfield is essentially a vest with no sleeves. It features a stylish stand collar with press-stud fastening and Lavenham traditional patch pockets. They are made of wool blend. Mickfield jackets are fashionable and trendy and come in plain and checkered fabric choices.
Newmarket Collection - The NewMarket Prince of Wales belong to a collection of jackets that are longer than traditional Lavenham coats. The basic design is retained - logo button fronts and patch pockets with flaps, to mention a few.
Lavenham Quilted Bags
Lavenham has extended its expertise in quilt to produce one of the highest-quality quilted bags today. The brand's signature diamond quilt pattern is featured in every Lavenham bag. Quilted bags are among the hottest trends in bags today, and Lavenham bags are versatile enough to be owned by men and women alike.
In terms of detail, Lavenham bags are diamond-quilted tote bags featuring front patch pocket (sounds familiar?), webbing handles and corduroy trim. They are made from polyester shell with approximately a hundred grams of quilted wadding. They too, are stamped with the mark of Stability and Durability that makes Lavenham a highly covetable brand.
