Relative newcomers to avant-garde fashion making Delusion was first introduced into a Manchester store for Spring/ Summer 2010. Becoming versed in left field styling at the University of Huddersfield, Ryan Heard, creative director, graduated with honours and it wasn’t long before the experimental and innovative designs were in full flow. It was at the University of Huddersfield whereby Heard first expended his knowledge of leather, experimenting with washing and practical techniques, collaborating both locally and internationally, developing creative contacts with premium manufactures which has served Delusion well.

 

 

The Spring Summer collection 2011 came with an assurance that such a youthful label probably in right shouldn’t have. The ingenuity is sometimes brash and surprising but Delusional achieves it without being aloof or overconfident. You can put Delusion in the same bracket as Unconditional or Bolongaro Trevor, elaborate basics to compliment a well-constructed wardrobe.

 

 

The label’s own website has a blurb for its collections giving a flowery description depicting the silk and jagged edged detail. The word used in crux for this collection is ’revelation’ going on to create a verse of apocalyptic light and dark, of good and evil. Ok, this may seem a bit too evolved for what is essentially a fashion range, but it does show how well conceived the brand is, how much thought goes into each of the items. Continuing to push the boundaries, focusing on washing techniques and effects cotton twill, lambskin and jerseys, resulting ‘in a more three dimensional range.’ This shows in the ‘draw the pant’ beige bottoms, tied around the waist with a gaunt cotton cord, the small detail that separates them from the wash of carrots available at the moment. Again the scoop detail black top uses layered colours around the neck to stand out from your average shawl top.

 

 

So it is no surprise we see a bright and successful future for the young designers and very much look forward to seeing what future inspiration comes from the fashion cauldron.
