I am converted to Unconditional, there I said it. Halleluiah! The design chief Philip Stephens manages to combine edgy of the moment garments without isolating the key audience, the everyday money spinners who keep the tills pinging. Very sensible I think you will agree. Philip comes from a background of the naked and famous having played creator and executioner for London nightlife in the early nineties. To have lived through the swill and shake lifestyle, seeing the casualties and congress that comes as a part of fashion and a bludgeoning scene and to not only have participated but, sidestepping seamlessly into his next venture is admirable. In 1996 He made the switch to fashion opening the hard edged boutique, concrete. It combined a small collection from his own hand and others with a similar trail of thought. In the first four years and having established a glowing reputation for the uncanny and discrete you could buy Unconditional in no less than 118 outlets.

 

 

Philip Stephens manages to almost hold the holy grail of fashion design, made for the catwalk having idiosyncratic collections that twists verve with witty retort. But, the garments comfortably converts to retail, that’s the gift, combing a relaxed feeling with of the moment, maybe before the moment in some cases. The punk influences and late seventies Britannia are key notes for the brand, ‘the London style’ as it is somewhat tackily described is also frequently used to convelute the attitude. The spring summer collection gives a somewhat androgynous backbone of luxury basics, highlighted by bold eye catching big items. The range uses greys and blacks as a baseline with flashes of brilliant colours as exclamation.

The LS Ghost Hood shows the workings of the brand taking a long sleeved tee and adding a shawl and hood for that Stephens’ jerk.
