One of Britain’s most iconic fashion houses Fred Perry has been making high quality sportswear and men’s designer fashion clothing for over eighty years. Fred himself was a Champion athlete, winning several Grand Slam Tennis titles as well as being a leading light within the sport of table tennis. As well as his talent for sport, Perry was also an innovator and an entrepreneur and whilst still at the top of his game, decided to design his own clothing range, knowing that he would be able to give it mass exposure whilst playing, a priceless marketing tool. Initially he started making just sweatbands but then expanded to make the now iconic Fred Perry Polo Shirts that sell in their thousands worldwide today.

Not wanting to be wholly defined as just a manufacturer and designer of sports clothing, the company decided to co-market itself as a fashion designer, and its British heritage and simple designs quickly saw it being closely linked with British youth subculture and particularly the mod movement of the late 60’s and 70’s with the Fred Perry Shirts particularly the check ones proving the most popular. Fred Perry menswear is relatively simple in its design ethos with many of the garments having simple design cuts in understated colours. Even the company logo the Fred Perry laurel, taken from Perry’s tennis days is of a minimalistic design and appearance.

In recent years the company has started to move towards the higher end of the fashion market. Firstly by creating their more limited edition Fred Perry Laurel collection available in limited numbers and outlets and secondly by collaborating with high end designers such as Raf Simons.
