So who is Michiko Koshino?

Michiko Koshino is a London-based fashion designer whose quirky designs have risen to cult status and given her a following worldwide. Michiko Koshino’s collections were originally heavily influenced by early club/rave culture and inspired by the underground music culture of the 80’s and early 90s. Michiko Koshino's designs were very experimental and removed from the mainstream and her accomplishments include the invention of inflatable clothing and using reflective fabric and bandages in her collections. Michiko Koshino was also the first fashion designer who marketed condoms in her own name. Michiko Koshino's later focus has been on her 1960s inspired Main Collection, her Sumo culture inspired Yen Wear Jeans, and her 100's line, based on Japanese workwear. Like much of Michiko Koshino’s work, these collections appealed to both clubbers and aficionados of fashion. But it is her casual denim range Yen Jeans for which she is more popularly known. Michiko Koshino’s Yen Jeans were introduced in 1996 with one of the jeans selected for a fashion shoot featuring David Beckham. Michiko Koshino participated in the prestigious World Fashion Awards in 2007 and has her landmark pieces exhibited worldwide. The Face, Mixmag, Scene, i-D, Dazed, Vogue, Arena to name have paid homage to Michiko Koshino’s impressive and original fashions styles. Celebrities can’t get enough of Michiko Koshino and her client list includes Kate Moss, Jude Law, Keith from The Prodigy, All Saints, The Spice Girls, Placebo, Talvin Singh, Keira Knightly, Natalie Imbruglia, Denise van Outen, Jodie Kidd and Dermot O’Leary to name a few!

The styles in Michiko Koshino’s Yen Jeans collection are manufactured using original Japanese denim, woven on the original 1940s looms and using original indigo dye techniques. True to Michiko Koshino’s Japanese roots there is a strong oriental flavour to her Yen Jeans. The cuts and styles of Michiko Koshino’s Yen Jeans are both visionary and experimental, as are the high-end leather details, new rough washes and asymmetric reeding. Yen Jeans have a fantastic vintage look and feel to them and much care and dedication goes into creating one of the tops brands around. Michiko Koshino’s Yen denim is popular for its unique fabric patterns and orange label on the rear. The great denim is shown off by the brilliant loose fit but it is the innovative gathering around the knees makes Michiko Koshino’s Yen jeans really stand out.
