So who is Paul Smith?
Sir Paul Smith, who describes his style as "classic with a twist", is British fashion royalty, he was knighted, Sir Paul Smith, in 2000 for service to British fashion. Paul Smith’s introduction into fashion was completely accidental. At the age of 16, with no career plans or qualifications, Paul Smith took a menial job at the local clothing warehouse in his native Nottingham. Within two years, Paul Smith was managing his first boutique and with the encouragement of his girlfriend and now wife and a small amount of savings, opened a tiny shop in 1970. In 1976, Paul showed his first menswear collection in Paris under the Paul Smith label. Paul Smith surprised the fashion business, offering classic British cuts, but combining them in an unusual manner or using striking colours to make them stand out. Grey business suits worn with colourful flower-decorated shirts honoured the tradition of British tailoring and took it a step further into young and progressive fashion. Thus garments of the business world became attractive for the fashion-oriented bohemia. Paul Smith has not only styled menswear, but created it. PS is British designer Paul Smith's classic diffusion line and is the Italian version of the Paul Smith Mainline Men’s collection. Launched in 1994, it features relaxed, wearable items with Smith’s signature attention to detail. The PS by Paul Smith range is big on sharp and sleek suiting. This seasons PS collection features slim and trim silhouettes with interesting fabrics, flawlessly tailored with no detail spared. With a fresh range of classic shirts, knitwear, cardigans, polo shirts, trousers, jackets, suits and outer wear. Revisiting significant looks of the past, Paul Smith’s PS line finds inspiration in the styles of the 40’s and 50’s. Focusing on a post-war era when the teddyboy came of age, Paul Smith zeros in on a young generation with cash in excess and a desire to dress to the nines regardless of occasion. Committing to the style of that time are high-waist trousers and velvet trimmed collars. Meanwhile, fine tuned pleats and tailoring keep the collection current. One of our favourite pieces in this seasons collection is the double breasted pea coat made from a black wool blend fabric. Styled with a lapel that can be worn both open and fastened by a hook and eye closure at collar, it has two storm pockets and two flaps covered pockets. Black PS embossed buttons are used throughout and at the back there is a central vent and button fastened belt. Fully lined inside in black fabric with a single button fastened pocket. Paul Smith styling at it’s very best! If you are looking for something to keep you dry during the winter months but want something a little lighter we have the PS by Paul Smith classic mac made from lightweight black fabric. This single breasted jacket has a button fastened front which is concealed by a flap, two slanted side pockets, gun flaps on the chest, adjustable cuff cinches and self tie waist belt. Chocolate PS embossed buttons are used throughout and at the back there is a central vent. The mac comes with a detachable wool liner that is fastened by buttons. There is also a bomber jacket if you are looking for something shorter and more casual but still effortlessly stylish. The PS by Paul Smith button up front blouson jacket is made with elephant grey check wool fabric. This jacket has adjustable strap at the neck, two slanted side pockets, knitted elephant grey cuffs and waistband. Internally it is lined in a quilted chocolate fabric with two button fastened pockets.
