The McQ line by Alexander McQueen has been a real success ever since it first arrived at our doors just over a year ago. We have slowly been building up our collection each season and now we feel that we have a strong selection online as well as in the shop.
We have choosen a few key items to show you so that you know what to expect before you see it in its entirety.
The McQ by Alexander McQueen All Over Web Tee is a great example of how McQ pushes bounderies in print design. The all over print featuresa web and spider design with some of the spider cut out for extra effect. The tee shirthas been cut nice and slim fitting and it has a well exicuted thin neck line.
This is another great looking item to come through our doors and it uses a pattern that continues from the summer. The McQ by Alexander McQueen Toxic Shirt has been produced using the finest cottons and it has been cut to a slim fit. The print has been expertly added all over the shirt and the vibrate colours really stand out. This shirt also benefits from a cut away collar which gives the shirt a great finish.
Finally we have this well presented polo shirt. At first you might think why would they choose this as a stand out item but once you get it in your hands or on your back then you will know instantly. The shirt has been cut almost perfectly and it hugs the contours of your body with out being to tight and the cotton which has been used is so soft and string you feel very at home when wearing it and the vibrate blue really set the whole garment off. We also think that the black tipping is a great addition to the polo.
Yesterday I talked about the 90s resurgence and how it was infiltrating the fashion scene and entering back into current pop culture, today I’m going to talk about the effect the culture re-emergence is having on the music scene. I know a lot of the old school music heads who’re in their 20s-40s+ have been praying for the realness to return to the music and someone or something to come and legitimize the game once again and give it some soul back.
This is the first stepping stone to that, at least I believe so. I miss the days of artists like Slik Rick, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot, Outkast and The Wu, but with recording artists like Kendrick Lamar and Joey Badass who are currently coming through and leading the attack on the mainstreams weak sauce with the realness and the 90s flavour we’ve all been yearning for, the wait is coming to a end.
Of course Kendrick and Joey are on the tip of every ones tongues at the minute we cannot forget the slew of underground artists that are currently dashing over the green and breaking through the fences. Some of these artists really capture the essence and flavour of what the 90s was. With artists like Trillmatic, Clear Soul Forces, Mick Jenkins, Dillon Cooper and Dakota Chris 2014 is looking like a good year for music already. Now don’t get it twisted a lot of mainstream artists are making good music at the minute but let’s be honest it’s heavily outweighed by the bad stuff that’s pushed to the front of the mainstream scene. I think it’s plain to see that even the mainstream artists know the resurgence is coming, just listening to a lot of the recent stuff to come out you can hear a lot of it is influenced by the 90s, whether it be the flow, the beat, the style or just a sample, you can hear it slowly creeping in as the year has progressed. Maybe if the game really does devolve back into the 90s or at the very least adopts some of the greatest parts of it, some of the artists we all know and love will make a triumphant return to the top of the scene. But for now it’s just a waiting game and I for one can’t wait to see what next year holds for the music scene.
We all know the music scene is a dirty game some times, we also know that heavy hitter Kendrick Lamar isn’t afraid to hit out at the mainstream, if you don’t know what I’m talking about you need to open a new tab and go listen to Kendricks verse on Big Seans – Control. This was probably one of the most controversial verses of the year and a lot of people had their say and got involved in the situation. But let us be real for a second, there was no under handedness or malice in Kendrick’s verse he was just simply letting everyone know he’s in the game to be the best, no mercy. Control dropped nearly 3 months ago and since then the game has been revitalised, artists have hit back and become better, and for that, Kendrick I thank you.
Back to the point, this year has been the gate way back into good music and the 90s flavour many artists that I have listed up above have been the generals in the war to kick that door open for the industry and now that it’s here I’m hoping we can step through.
But for now we’ll just wait and see and until the next year I will leave you all with a lil’ list of a couple albums/mixtapes you should have listened to this year (in my opinion).
Joey Badass – Summer Knights - Mixtape
Kendrick Lamar – Good Kid Maad City - Album
Mac Miller – Watching Movies With The Sound Off - Album
Drake – Nothing Was The Same - Album
Action Bronson – Blue Chips P2 - Mixtape
J.Cole – Born Sinner - Album
Dakota Chris – No Doubts Or Limitations - Mixtape
And with that, I hope ya’ll are having a good Monday morning and a good start to your week, and I’m a leave you with a lil’ old school flavour!
2013 is almost at its end and for some it has been a great year for others not so much, a lot has happened in the past year but I think we can all agree that change is in the air. I can’t help but notice the cultural change that has been slowly growing over this past year and by that I mean the 90s resurgence that has been happening. Over the past year it has apparent that the 90s is making a comeback in some places, like America it’s more or less in full swing already. Places like the UK it’s here but it’s slowly trickling through with only a hand full of groups embracing it in the underground scene.
Let’s talk fashion for a minute; anybody who lived through the 90s or grew up in the 90s knows that a lot of the gear that has been getting hype and trending this past year is just a regurgitation of what we were all wearing 15 years ago. All though a lot of the kids born in the late 90s early 00s would like to think it’s all new and flashy never been done before, we know the truth. These millennium babies or “Hype Kids” as we say in the streets don’t know that recording artists like Slik Rick, Ginuwine, GraveDiggaz and The Dungeon Family were some of the first people to don’ full leather outfits and bring them forward into pop culture. Actually I think the first person I ever saw rocking a pair of leather pants was Grand Master Flash or Rick James. I know I’ve probably lost a lot of you younger cats, who don’t know who any of those people are.
Back to my point, 2013 has seen the reintroduction of the 90s back in to pop culture, you can see it in the media the 90s is coming, so far it’s looking good, I personally can’t wait till it gets in full swing over here in the UK. The Style, the clothing, the atmosphere, the music, I miss a lot about the 90s I know it won’t be the same but I’m happy with where this seems to be going so far. Popular and fashionable trends for this past year have been Denim, Leather and Bright clothing/trainers, not to mention customized clothing has been a big hit this year with personalised denim jackets being the most popular of them all.
At the end of 2012 we were heading into a fitted/slim era of clothing, it seems this year we’re heading back into the baggy phase again, but not to baggy. The most popular jean style from this year has got to be the straight leg with a slight drop crotch with a 34 long legs, for the baggy creased leg look. Another trend that is coming back into swing and one to keep an eye on is the American Jersey look. I’m talking Basketball, Baseball, American Football and of course my favourite the Hockey Jersey. This trend has defiantly hit the UK hard but it’s most popular with our females over here, mostly worn with leggings or short shorts, some wear it better than others let’s just leave it at that. I believe the Jersey style will pop in 2014 for the UK. Right now the most common style to see is either the baseball or football style, I’m predicting that 2014 will bring the Basketball Jersey back and I do believe that the Hockey style will become one of the most popular.
Back to the Leather trend, I know it’s not for everyone but when done right it is a great look when put together with some good style. Real leather products are of course not cheap and sometimes getting faux leather doesn’t feel or quite look the same, If you’re just looking to dip your toes in I’d defiantly recommend for guys getting involved with a pair of black waxed denim jeans, they look like leather without looking like your trying to front like they are and are long lasting and look great with dark colours or even other real leather products. For women I’d recommend trying to find some leather look leggings to test it out with if you’re not sure if the leather look is for you, and leggings can practically be worn with anything.
Another major trend coming through that’s not quite hit its potential is the Red look, the Red Look will be the thing this summer I’ve been seeing brands pushing out a few full red outfits already and I’ve had a little sneaky look at some of the catalogues for next year’s summer drop and a lot of brands are pushing The Red look. It may only last for one summer but it’s defiantly one of those trends you need to be on if you claim to be a true fashion connoisseur. I’ve already got my Red Balenciaga’s ready and waiting for this summer’s cat walk to work with a full leather outfit, let’s just say this summer is going to be a hot one!
I could go on but this is getting a bit wordy for a light morning read on a Sunday. The 90s is coming so make sure you have your gear right for this summer, we don’t have long left!
It’s a cold morning today in the UK but we’ve just been hit with some heat from the sneaker scene, more importantly the customs game. I know a lot of people sleep on custom made/altered sneakers but many including myself believe they are the future. The way the sneaker games heading at the minute having a couple customs in your arsenal is a must, let’s face it as the price and the quantity go up the quality goes down any true sneaker head will know the quality of a rerelease has nothing on a pair of OG’s. Sneaker customization is an amazing process and can lead to some truly amazing results; even major companies like Nike and Adidas recognise the art and influence behind customs and have even done limited/exclusive runs with some of the greats like Futura.
Since the Nike Air Yeezys dropped there has been no end to artists putting the beloved Yeezy colour ways on other sneakers such as the Air Force and the Air Jordan for their customers that just couldn’t get their hands on the real thing or didn’t feel 3000$ was a justified price for a pair of sneakers. Some obviously better than others, but just recently a mass swarm of all red colour ways have been engulfing the customs scene and majority of the internet. Today marks the release of maybe one of the best I’ve seen by JBF Customs.
JBF did not mess around with this pair of Nike Air Yeezy I’s, the fabric of the shoe has been completely gutted and replaced with Lizard, Crocodile and Suede panels, all in red of course, making this one ferocious pair of kicks. Apart from the client requesting an all red colour way and exotic leather, JBF had artistic freedom to take the design where he wanted. The heel and tongue are outfitted with authentic suede crocodile, whilst the strap and toe box are sporting genuine lizard leather.
In this humble sneaker heads opinion I believe this to be one of, if not the best Red October custom to come out of the wood works to date.
November has been a crazy month for the sneaker game and the entire sneaker community around the world, from Kanyé jumping ship to Adidas in a way only Kanyé ever could to Drizzy Drake joining the Jordan family with his own line of “Air Drakes”? Maybe “Air Drizzys”? The Young Money OVO rapper hit out on Instagram late night after a concert earlier this week to let his followers know that he was the next inductee into the Jordan brand. He hasn’t just got his own colour way ow no no no, Mr Drizzy has somehow swung his own sneaker line; he even blessed us with a few quick snaps of some of the samples, although so far it appears to just be recolors of already established Jordan models, we know Tinker and Drake are in a dark dark room somewhere crafting a magnificent master piece, at least we hope.
Now we all heard the Kanyé rant about Nike which many believe to be the reason for his swift departure from Nike, now the question is will this ignite animosity between the two rappers. Only the future will tell which direction both these collaborations will take us. I’m expecting great things from both brands, now it’s just a waiting game to see who comes out on top. I’m holding a lot of hope for Kanyé, let’s face it “who else you know who jumped over the jump man?”
The unthinkable has happened and no matter how much the tumblr and twitter communities want to deny it Kanye West has move over from Nike to Adidas.
I don't think anybody really saw this coming, yes there were a few rants aimed at Nike and it was common knowledge that Kanye wasn't overly happy with things over at Nike but I for one mostly ignored this and was mainly focused on how is was going to get my hands on a pair of Red Octobers.
Things started to come to a head around two weeks ago when Kanye openly criticised Mark Parker the head of Nike at one of his concerts, now that is certainly a one way ticket to getting your self removed from the Nike family and I'm pretty sure when Kanye made his statement he knew that's exactly what he was doing. Nike are well known for pulling the sponsorship from artist just for them being seen wearing another sports brand, so that's how it ended, a public rant and an unhappy separation. Kanye blames Nike's lack of invention and that they wouldn't let him on the royalties, Nike has yet to comment and it leaves a lot of sneaker fans wondering if they are ever going to get their hands on the Red Octobers, I very much doubt it.
As the world of social media went insane over the news that Kanye was leaving Nike the immediate rumour was that he would be going to Adidas Y3 but this turned out to be only half true, he has actually ended up signing for Adidas in deal which is reported to be worth 10 million dollars. Adidas is well known for it's affiliation with Rap and Hip Hop and this legacy stretches back all the way to the 80's with RUN DMC, so it seems like a natural partnership and with the success of other Adidas lines with the likes of Missy Elliot and Snoop Dog it is something that Adidas has a lot of experience with.
The main thing people are now asking is what the new Kanye line is going to look like, will he try and make a sports version of the Givenchy look that he wears at the moment or will we something completely different from him. Hopefully Adidas will give him the space he needs to express him self fully because after a lot of talk it would be good to see what his concept are. I for one hold out high hope for the collection as I think that Adidas has the frame work to support such an artist and they have a long history of working with cutting edge designers and releasing shoes that are boundary pushing, you just have to think of the Rick Owens, Raff Simmons and Jeremy Scott collection, all of which are not design to be big sellers which is maybe something that Nike won't do.
We are sure that what ever Kanye and Adidas decide to do with the collection that the hype will still be turned up to ten and each piece will sell out, nobody is sure which shops or accounts will be picking up this new line but be sure that whether we get it or not we will certainly have some in our wardrobe.
