David Beckham is to help England in its bid to host the World Cup in 2018, alongside his duties as part of Fabio Capello's coaching team.

The star of the new Adidias Originals advert ruptured his left Achilles tendon, which has left him unable to take to the pitch in this year's tournament.

But the 35-year-old will be campaigning to bring the competition to the UK in eight years' time.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter officially received England's bid book from Beckham yesterday (May 16th), who has already been instrumental in the success of the campaign to bring the Olympic Games to London in 2012.

Andy Anson, the chief executive of the bid, said while Beckham is busy "with Fabio and the England staff, [ ] if he's got time, yes, he will come and work with us. Whatever we have asked him to do, he has done and done it fantastically".

England will kick off their South Africa World Cup campaign with their first match against USA on June 12th.
