Adidas-sponsored David Beckham is set to join the England team at this summer's World Cup in a coaching role.

Reports suggest the LA Galaxy midfielder - currently suffering from an Achilles injury that will rule him out of on-the-field action - will act as an unofficial assistant manager to Fabio Capello in South Africa.

The Italian boss may be hoping that 35-year-old's experience at the highest level may prove to be a key factor in England's attempts to win their first major trophy since 1966.

Earlier this week Beckham's wife Victoria confirmed that the former Manchester United midfielder would be attending the tournament, which is likely to be welcome news for his sponsors including Adidas.

Fashion-conscious men may wish to keep an eye on Beckham during the tournament as he is famed for his unique style and has in the past been unafraid to wear something a little different - such as the famous photo of him wearing a sarong.
