Adidas-sponsored David Beckham may still be set to make an appearance at this year's World Cup in South Africa, but possibly not in the manner that England fans would have hoped for.

Beckham seems certain to fail to make Fabio Capello's squad due to his Achilles injury, but that doesn't mean that the former Manchester United man is any less in demand.

ITV and BBC are reportedly considering making an offer to get the midfielder as a pundit on their panel in a move that might just tip the ratings battle in their favour - thanks to the Becks appeal.

The Daily Mail reports a source as saying: "Everyone is on tenterhooks. Having Becks would be ratings gold - and also a disaster for the other side."

As one of the official sponsors of the tournament Adidas may well be keen to see their man on view in some capacity and fashion-conscious males could also wish to see what he chooses to wear as much as what he has to say.
