Jermain Defoe has posed in Adidas to show off the match ball for this summer's World Cup in South Africa.

The Tottenham Hotspur and England striker missed out on the tournament in 2006, so he may be hoping to put the ball to good use this time around.

Known as the Jabulani it was designed by the Sports Technology Institute at Loughborough University and Dr Andy Harland and his team spent two years researching the aerodynamics of a football, which may be good news for naturally skilled players.

"We're hoping you won't see a poor player take a pot-shot from 35 yards and get lucky," he told the Daily Mail.

He added fans will see "good players score good goals" and it will be the player's fault if he misses the target with the new ball.

Fashion-savvy blokes could make sure they look their best while watching the tournament by wearing Adidas originals.
