Jermain Defoe has revealed how the colour of his Adidas trainers almost got him in trouble with the company.

The Adidas-sponsored Tottenham Hotspur striker has revealed that he is superstitious and when something goes well he likes to keep things consistent, right down to what he's wearing on his feet.

He revealed in his column for the Mirror that as part of his sponsorship deal he is supposed wear new colour boots whenever they are released and added he was meant to switch to a green pair.

"When I scored my five goals in our 9-1 win over Wigan I was wearing the silvery-pink ones ... I decided I had to keep wearing them," Defoe said.

The England-star also revealed his thoughts on Wayne Rooney and Lionel Messi's much talked about battle to be considered the world's best player.

Defoe decided to opt for his fellow countryman Rooney, rather than Argentinean Messi, who also wears Adidas trainers.
