Glasgow Rangers footballer Maurice Edu has said he is sad he will not be able to face David Beckham at this year's World Cup in South Africa.

Beckham will not be sporting his Adidas footwear at the tournament due to injury, but Edu has admitted he was hoped to challenge the midfielder at England's clash with the USA on June 12th.

"I must admit, when we were drawn with England, I fancied trying to get the better of Beckham. He's been one of the best in his position for the last ten years or so," the American said.

He added he knew how hard it must be for Beckham to have to watch the event from the sidelines, after having experienced it himself during last year's Confederations Cup, also in South Africa.

Edu has been picked for Bob Bradley's 23-man squad for the USA, which lost 4-2 in a friendly against the Czech Republic in preparation for the World Cup.
