England star Wayne Rooney will need to make sure he keeps his temper when he dons his Nike boots for the World Cup this month, it has been advised.

According to pundit and former footballer Jamie Redknapp, fans could see the Manchester United striker was getting visibly agitated during England's tenuous 2-1 win over Japan yesterday (May 31st).

Writing for the Daily Mail, Redknapp said the world's best defenders will be on show during the tournament and will be looking to trip Rooney up at every opportunity.

"They will look to wind him up. He needs to rise above that. I don't agree he plays better angry. For me, he's better when he's smiling and happy," the critic said.

The Mirror recently reported that Rooney has got a new tattoo in honour of his son Kai, which he revealed after England's friendly match against Mexico last week in preparation for the team's World Cup campaign.
