A new series of adverts in Scotland featuring Wayne Rooney has seen the England star dropped in favour of Brazilian footballer Kaka.

In England, Rooney is seen prominently donning his Nike footwear and red national kit in a promotional film for satellite TV firm Sky, but the advert has been tailored for Scottish audiences, pushing the footballer into the background of the clip.

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres of Spain, German Michael Ballack and Ivory Coast's Didier Drogba also feature in the TV spot, which is advertising the World Cup matches being screened on Sky.

"It was felt a prominent photograph of Wayne Rooney in a red England shirt might put some people in Scotland off. The decision was taken to have Kaka at the front," a spokesperson for the company said.

Nike recently released a commercial which shows an imaginary future where Rooney is an overweight, bearded man living in a trailer park after losing to France in the upcoming World Cup.
