Forget the slam dunks and match wins, the real competition on the basketball court is between the NCAA basketball teams and what trainers they choose.

According to BNET, all eyes are on the footwear that the players pull on and Nike and Adidas lead the basketball pack.

The hot favourites to achieve trainer glory are old-school styles, the website claims, with Nike's Jordan VI Retro cited as a good example of doing retro properly.

Adidas has a more prominent positioning on the professional court. In 2006 it signed an 11-year deal with the NBA to become the official uniform and apparel supplier to the league.

But Nike is responsible for kitting out some of the best NCAA teams.

So Nike or Adidas? Which do you think does it better on the basketball court?

"It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look while cheering for the team," BNET concludes.

Teams that play under the NBA include the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons.
